Abstract — Roots of Panax notoginseng were fermented with 30 fungi respectively. Almost one-third of the products showed increasing antibacterial activity. All products could inhibit GST-CDC25 phosphatase as a potential antitumor agent. HPLC profiles proved that components of unfermented P. notoginseng and fermented P. notoginseng have obviously changes. This study was undertaken to investigate in-vitro antioxidant and antibacterial activities of Blepharis glomerans flowers (BGF). In this experiment we used methanol for the soxhlet extraction. Methanol extract of BGF comprises alkaloids, cardiac glycosides, steroids, saponins, flavonoids and terpenoids. Phenol content of the BGF was 51.4 mg/g and flavonoid content was 38.9 mg/g. A series of substituted benzimidazole compounds were synthesized by phase transfer catalyst (PTC) method using quaternary ammonium salt. Reaction has been carried out by conventional method in inert gas. Synthesized compounds were confirmed by IR, NMR, mass spectral and elemental analysis. A series of several new chalcone analogues were synthesized and also evaluated for their in vitro antimicrobial activity against variety of bacterial and fungal strains. Among the synthesized chalcone derivatives 3a, 3b, 3c, 4a, 4b, 4c showed excellent antibacterial and antifungal activities while substituted quinolinyl chalcones showed significant antifungal activities.
